chilly reception! The eighth graders at Project Learn School have an ambitious "field trip"planned. They are raising the funds needed to send themselves to Costa Rica this spring, where they will be doing community service as they learn all about the region's culture, history and more. To help raise money for this expedition, they are teaming up with Joe Coffee Bar and selling FRESH JOE, a fair trade, organic blend from a woman-owned farm in Honduras. They even designed their own label! Did you expect less from a school with over 40 years of progressive education? Please support these ambitious youngsters who are working for a more sustainable world! Want to purchase their coffee to help support them? Want to contribute to the success of their project? Want to find out how you could make this a permanent part of curriculum? Contact them! NOW YOUR COFFEE'S PACKED IN BROWN CELLOPHANE-LINED COMPOSTABLE/RECYCLABLE BAGS. Same price, same great quality-coffee you've been buying for 8 years. Part of our mission statement is to be sensitive to the environment--people and planet. I'm always looking for another way to be a little better. Just remove the metal tie from your bag of coffee or granola, and bury, compost or recycle it--the cellophane lining is vegetable-based and breaks down with the paper. WHAT'S WITH THE PAPER BAG? Our unbleached coffee bag with heat-sealed liner is recyclable/compostable. Our product is always fresh--roasted a few times weekly in small batches as needed, not warehoused. Unless you're storing for months unopened, foil or heavy plastic bags are overkill--for the coffee and granola and the planet. ~ ~ Temple University professor and author Bryant Simon launched his new book, "Everything But The Coffee, learning about America from Starbucks" is the first book about Starbucks that probes the company's psychological, emotional, political, and sociological power to discover how Starbucks' explosive success and rapid deflation exemplify American culture at this historical moment. He presented his views of fair trade and coffee marketing at the old coffeehouse, and many found him riveting and powerful. Bryant did a bit of his research at the coffeehouse, and joecoffee is featured in the book! If you missed hearing him speak occasionally at the coffeehouse, CHECK OUT ONE OF BRYANT'S RECENT INTERVIEWS: ~ ~ LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS They need you to shop in their Spend it online and nothing comes home. Zero. Shopping local keeps "for rent" signs out of store windows, municipal taxes down, and your favorite businesses around. Local business owners don't want a bailout. They just want your business. · * * * * |
